چکیده

We consider the regularity of a mixed boundary value problem for the Laplace operator on a polyhedral domain, where Ventcel boundary conditions are imposed on one face of the polyhedron and Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed on the complement of that face in the boundary. We establish improved regularity estimates for the trace of the variational solution on the Ventcel face, and use them to derive a decomposition of the solution into a regular and a singular part that belongs to suitable weighted Sobolev spaces. This decomposition, in turn, via interpolation estimates both in the interior as well as on the Ventcel face, allows us to perform an a priori error analysis for the Finite Element approximation of the solution on anisotropic graded meshes. Numerical tests support the theoretical analysis. AMS (MOS) subject classification (2010): 35J25, 65N30, 46E35, 52B70, 58J05.

A Rigorous Error Analysis of Coupled FEM-BEM Problems with Arbitrary Many Subdomains

In this article, we provide a rigorous a priori error estimate for the symmetric coupling of the finite and boundary element method for the potential problem in three dimensions. Our theoretical framework allows an arbitrary number of polyhedral subdomains. Our bound is not only explicit in the mesh parameter, but also in the subdomains themselves: the bound is independent of the number of subd...

Pointwise a Posteriori Error Estimates for the Stokes Equations in Polyhedral Domains

Abstract. We derive pointwise a posteriori residual-based error estimates for finite element solutions to the Stokes equations in polyhedral domains. The estimates relies on the regularity of the of Stokes equations and provide an upper bound for the pointwise error in the velocity field on polyhedral domains. Whereas the estimates provide upper bounds for the pointwise error in the gradient of...

9 M ay 2 00 9 The hp - BEM with quasi - uniform meshes for the electric field integral equation on polyhedral surfaces : a priori error analysis ∗

This paper presents an a priori error analysis of the hp-version of the boundary element method for the electric field integral equation on a piecewise plane (open or closed) Lipschitz surface. We use H(div)-conforming discretisations with Raviart-Thomas elements on a sequence of quasi-uniform meshes of triangles and/or parallelograms. Assuming the regularity of the solution to the electric fie...

Discontinuous Least-Squares finite element method for the Div-Curl problem

In this paper, we consider the div-curl problem posed on nonconvex polyhedral domains. We propose a least-squares method based on discontinuous elements with normal and tangential continuity across interior faces, as well as boundary conditions, weakly enforced through a properly designed least-squares functional. Discontinuous elements make it possible to take advantage of regularity of given ...

Sobolev Spaces and Regularity for Polyhedral Domains

We prove a regularity result on polyhedral domains P ⊂ R using the weighted Sobolev spaces Ka (P). In particular, we show that there is no loss of Ka –regularity for solutions of strongly elliptic systems with smooth coefficients. In the proof, we identify Ka (P) with the Sobolev spaces on P associated to the metric r P gE , where gE is the Euclidean metric and rP(x) is a smoothing of the Eucli...
